Professor Tatiana Shilova, an ophthalmologist, warned against wearing colored contact lenses without medical supervision, as it may cause corneal ulcers and permanent vision loss.

According to her, it is essential to purchase cosmetic contact lenses only after consulting a specialist at a specialized optical store, and not from the market. Otherwise, a person may suffer mechanical injury to the eye and damage to the corneal epithelium.

She says: "When using unsuitable lenses, a person may initially experience discomfort, dryness, redness, and blurred vision in the evening. But the condition soon worsens clinically, with erosion beginning, followed by infectious keratitis, corneal ulcers, scarring, and permanent vision loss. Sometimes, it requires long-term treatment and surgery."

According to her, low-quality products may contain hazardous ingredients that cause allergic reactions. Small particles, such as dust and lint, which may sometimes be found in the solution or on the lens itself, pose a particular risk. These particles can cause mechanical damage if they come into contact with the eye.
