Indonesian mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah secured their place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 All England after winning their all-Indonesian pair duel against Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in the round of 16 at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham, England, on Thursday local time.
Amri/Nita secured a tight victory in straight games, 22-20, 21-18. Amri said the match was tense as both pairs were making their debuts in the world's oldest badminton tournament.
"Thank God, I performed well in my second All England debut. I put all my preparation into action here, and I finally won," said Amri in an official PBSI statement after the match.
According to him, the match was very tight because both pairs already understood each other's playing characteristics, from their strengths to their weaknesses on the field.
"The game was tight and very busy. The focus, tension and speed were very intense. We both know each other's strengths and weaknesses," he said.
Amri revealed that the key to their victory lay in their ability to capitalize on momentum at crucial points towards the end of the game.
"They also played very well, but in the final points, we were able to take advantage of the situation, control the tempo, and control the game. Those opportunities in the final points are what gave us the lead," he said.
