Archery athletes begin hard training in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games
Archery athlete Akhmad Khoirul Basith said Indonesian archery athletes have begun rigorous training in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

"The preparation was quite tough, training from morning to night and only having Sunday off," Basith told reporters at a press conference.

The 2025 SEA Games archery gold medalist explained that the competition for the Asian Games is quite tight because of the four athletes in that category, only three will be sent to Nagoya.

Basith said the four athletes competing in the men's recurve event were himself, Arif Dwi Pangestu, Riau Ega Agatha, and Alviyanto Bagas Prastyadi.

"Only three athletes will be going to the upcoming Asian Games, so there will be a selection process or promotion and relegation," he said.

According to Basith, the current training program is still general in nature, focusing on physical and technical development. Training takes place at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan.

The Indonesian archery team will also take part in a number of international championships, one of which is the Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China, in May.

Basith assessed that competition at the Asian level at the upcoming Asian Games will be tight, with South Korea, China, and India being the main archery powers.
