Mercedes driver George Russell secured pole position for the Formula 1 Australian GP after dominating throughout qualifying at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit, Melbourne.
Russell was fastest after overcoming fierce resistance from teammate Kimi Antonelli and Red Bulls driver Isack Hadjar.
Q1 qualifying was quite surprising when Res Bulls driver Max Verstappen had to drop out of the competition.
The four-time world champion crashed after hitting the barriers early in the session, failing to progress to Q2.
The qualifying session then progressed to Q2. Russell started the session with a time of 1 minute 18.934 seconds and immediately shot to the lead.
