Araghchi discusses ceasefire issues with Washington with Pakistani mediator

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed with his Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir issues related to the ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, just days after the extension of the truce brokered by Pakistan.

Iranian media did not provide further details about the content of the talks that took place during Araqchi's contacts with Pakistani officials, who are mediating with the United States.

In a post on the “X” platform, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry indicated that Minister Dar stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and communication to address outstanding issues, with the aim of promoting regional peace and stability as soon as possible.

In turn, Araqchi praised Pakistan’s continued and constructive role in facilitating this.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry added that the two ministers agreed to maintain close communication.

Last Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had agreed to extend the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely, at Pakistan's request, pending a unified proposal from Iran.

This came after the White House suspended Vice President J.D. Vance’s planned visit to Islamabad last Tuesday for a second round of talks after Tehran refused to send any delegation to Pakistan unless the United States lifted its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz .

The Pakistani capital, Islamabad, hosted the first round of talks between Iran and the United States on the 11th of this month, which were unsuccessful.
