Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced on Friday the arrest of Amjad Youssef, the “prime suspect” in the 2013 Al-Tadamon neighborhood massacre in the capital Damascus.
Khattab said in a post on his “X” platform account: “The criminal Amjad Youssef, the prime suspect in the Al-Tadamon massacre, is now in our custody after a well-executed security operation.”
On April 16, 2013, the forces of the ousted regime killed 41 civilians in the Al-Tadamon neighborhood massacre in Damascus, throwing them into a large pit. Human bones were later found in the area.
On April 27, 2022, the British newspaper The Guardian published a video clip, which it said was leaked by a recruit in a pro-regime militia, showing the killing of at least 41 people and the burning of their bodies by forces of Branch 227 of the regime’s military intelligence in the Al-Tadamon neighborhood.
Assad regime intelligence officer Amjad Youssef, whose face is clearly visible in the photos, was seen shooting at civilians who had been arrested blindfolded and with their hands tied.
The Ministry of Interior frequently announces the arrest of those involved in committing violations against civilians throughout the years of the Syrian revolution (2011-2024).
