Football: CAN 2025 records a 61% increase in audiences

The 2025 edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), organized in Morocco, recorded a 61% increase in audiences, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In a press release published Monday, the body welcomes a “unprecedented growth” who confirms “expansion” international competition.

The Moroccan CAN took place from December 21, 2025 to February 18, 2026 and was won by Senegal, after a final against the host country.

The audience success of CAN 2025, sponsored by TotalEnergies, would be due in particular to reinforced coverage in Europe, Asia and South America.

“The United Kingdom and France are among the territories having contributed most significantly to this increase in audiences,” thanks to the broadcast of the competition on leading television channels, according to CAF. More than three million viewers followed the CAN final on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.

CAF also underlines the importance of new broadcasting agreements in countries like Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Colombia which have made CAN 2025 the edition “the most widely distributed in the history of the competition on a global scale.”

According to the organization, these results place the African Cup of Nations among the fastest growing sporting properties globally.
