House of Representatives Commission VII supports increasing the budget and authority of BSN

Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) supports increasing the budget and authority for the National Standardization Agency (BSN) to strengthen oversight and increase product standardization capacity in Indonesia.

"BSN's limited budget has resulted in a lack of testing equipment and weak field supervision. Therefore, we will push for an increase in the budget so they can purchase new and modern equipment," said Saleh Partaonan Daulay, Chairman of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, during a working visit to BSN.

He said the DPR also encouraged BSN to obtain greater authority, including in setting mandatory Indonesian National Standards (SNI) more independently.

According to him, the authority to set standards is currently spread across a number of technical ministries, such as the Ministry of Industry and other ministries.

"We want stronger coordination between institutions so that national standardization can run effectively," he said.
