In Madrid on Monday, several leading figures in world sport were honored at the ceremony organized by the Laureus Foundation.
Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, winner of two Grand Slam tournaments last year, was named Sportsman of the Year. On the women's side, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka was named Sportswoman of the Year for 2025. In Formula 1, Briton Lando Norris, the world champion, was chosen as Breakthrough Driver of the Year. In golf, Rory McIlroy, winner of the 2025 Masters, received the Comeback Player of the Year award for his return to the top level.
Snowboarder Chloe Kim won her third trophy, while Gabriel Araújo, three-time world champion in para-swimming, earned his first award. In football, FC Barcelona's young prodigy, Lamine Yamal, was named best young player of the year. Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, was named team of the year after an exceptional season marked by a historic sextuple: Ligue 1, Champions League, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, UEFA Super Cup, and Intercontinental Cup.
