The UK's communications regulator stated in a new report that platform providers Meta, Snap, and Roblox have expressed commitments to strengthening child protection efforts in the digital space.
The UK Office of Communications said it sent emails to Facebook, Instagram, Roblox, Snap, TikTok and YouTube in March 2026, after a study it conducted in late 2025 showed the platform providers were not doing enough to protect children.
According to regulators based on the Online Safety Act, among other things, require platform providers to implement efforts to protect children from acts of sexual harassment and exploitation in the digital space.
In response to the lawsuit, Snap agreed to implement automatic settings that would prevent children from communicating with unknown adults on its platform, and to stop encouraging young users to expand their friendship groups with strangers.
The company also told the UK communications regulator that it would roll out a “highly effective age guarantee” system to all users of its platforms in the UK this summer.
According to the company, the system will be able to identify everyone under 18 in the UK and apply new anti-harassment measures to their accounts.
