Samsung reportedly registers patents for two new foldable phone designs

Samsung has reportedly filed a patent application for two new foldable phone designs that are more practical than existing models, one of which is a phone design with a screen that can be expanded using a sliding mechanism.

cited a WearView report regarding patent registration documents for two new foldable phone designs filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. with the United States patent office.

The patent application shows a phone design whose screen can be expanded using a sliding or rolling mechanism.

Instead of folding like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, the device's screen can be expanded horizontally when pulled.

The design allows users to use a compact device with a larger screen to open multiple applications simultaneously, play games, or watch videos.

The second phone model design concept uses a different approach.

In the compact version, the device's screen is completely hidden within the phone's body. A larger screen is revealed when the sides of the phone are pulled outward.

Samsung calls this approach a way to better protect the screen from scratches and bumps when not in use.
