Trump delays signing executive order on AI model evaluation

United States President Donald Trump has delayed signing an executive order that would allow the government to evaluate new artificial intelligence (AI) models before they are released to the public.

According to a TechCrunch report , Trump said that he did not like the use of language and several aspects of the executive order.

"We're leading China, we're leading everyone, and I don't want to do anything that would hinder that leadership," he told reporters at the White House.

The executive order will task the Office of the National Cyber Director and other government agencies in the United States to create mechanisms for evaluating the security of AI models before they are released.

The provision was drafted following concerns about the launch of new AI models such as Anthropic's Mythos and OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Cyber, which are thought to be able to quickly find and exploit security vulnerabilities.

One of the points highlighted in the draft executive order regarding AI model evaluation according to CNN news is the obligation for AI companies to share their AI models with the government around 14 to 90 days before the official launch.
