Sony partners with Bandai Namco to develop generative AI for video production

Sony is partnering with Bandai Namco Holdings in a collaborative pilot project to explore the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology in video production.

As reported the partnership was announced in Sony's latest corporate performance and strategy presentation, which places AI as one of the company's main focuses in technology development.

Sony President and CEO Hiroki Totoki called AI "an amplifier of the human imagination and a catalyst for new possibilities." He emphasized that the technology is not intended to replace artists or creators.

Regarding the joint project with Bandai Namco, Hiroki said that both companies saw significant improvements in work speed and productivity through the use of generative AI.

He acknowledged that there are still challenges in terms of consistency and control over production results, but he said AI makes it possible to achieve levels of production quality that were previously difficult to achieve due to time constraints.
