Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Budisatrio Djiwandono, expressed his appreciation to friendly countries, especially Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan, for their assistance in repatriating nine Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were detained by Israel while carrying out the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian mission.
"We are certainly grateful that our nine brothers have returned home safely," Budisatrio said
He said that cross-border diplomatic collaboration and communication are crucial in handling sensitive situations.
According to him, the swift action taken by the government, particularly the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in repatriating the volunteers is proof of the effectiveness of Indonesian diplomacy.
According to him, every Indonesian citizen who is carrying out a humanitarian mission must have their rights and safety guaranteed by the state.
He condemned the repressive treatment received by humanitarian volunteers while in Israeli military detention.
Therefore, he said that the repatriation of the 9 Indonesian citizens was a concrete form of the government's presence in guaranteeing the safety of Indonesian citizens who were carrying out humanitarian missions.
"We also condemn the violence and all treatment that violates international humanitarian law that our nine Indonesian citizens experienced while in detention," he said.
He also committed to continuing to support the distribution of humanitarian aid and to oversee efforts to achieve Palestinian independence through diplomatic channels.
"Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to support the Palestinian struggle for independence through the 'two-state solution' as a path to lasting peace, while ensuring the fulfillment of the universal basic rights of Palestinian citizens. Palestinian independence is a commitment we will always fight for," he said.
The two-state solution is a peace framework that proposes the establishment of two independent and sovereign states: a state of Israel for the Jewish people and a state of Palestine for the Palestinian people, living side by side peacefully in the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
