DPR members suggest that SPPI training can be provided through mentoring at cooperatives

Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rivqy Abdul Halim, proposed to the government that training for participants of the Indonesian Development Driving Bachelor  program who are currently prospective managers at the Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperative  or Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) be provided through mentoring at the cooperative.

Rivqy further explained that training for prospective KDKMP or KNMP managers could emphasize field practice through direct mentoring at successful cooperatives, internships with business owners, and mentoring by professional mentors.

"It would be better to focus solely on managerial skills," he said in a statement confirmed.

According to him, his proposal was based on the success of cooperative development in a number of countries which was carried out through strengthening human resource capacity, not an excessive physical approach.

For example, in Japan, he said agricultural cooperatives thrive through ongoing management education, business training, and professional mentoring.

Then, in South Korea, he assessed that the Saemaul Undong movement succeeded in strengthening the village economy through local leadership development, entrepreneurship training, and community participation.

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, he continued, large cooperatives grew because they were managed by professional managers with strong business competencies, governance, and accountability.

"Indonesia needs to adopt these best practices. The Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative Program will be successful if managed by professional human resources with integrity, business savvy, and sustained development," said the member of the House of Representatives commission, which partners with the Ministry of Cooperatives.
