Ginting was stopped in the first round at the 2026 Australian Open

Indonesian men's singles player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting was eliminated in the round of 32 of the 2026 Australian Open after losing to Chinese representative Dong Tian Yao 15-21, 15-21 at Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, Sydney, Wednesday.

Ginting admitted that his opponent performed better, especially after changing his game strategy which made it difficult for him to escape the pressure.

"Today, my opponent played better than me. I was ahead from the start, but he tried to change his strategy and playing style. He put more pressure on me, and I couldn't get out of it," Ginting said in a PBSI statement after the match.

Besides failing to maintain his lead, Ginting revealed that many of his own mistakes at key points were one of the factors that prevented him from turning things around.

"Besides that, I made a lot of unforced errors, especially during crucial points. So, when I was ahead, tied, and at critical points, I wasn't able to control my game well," he said.
