Norwegian national team striker Erling Haaland is proud to be making his World Cup debut.
Haaland played a key role in Norway's 4-1 victory over Iraq in their opening Group I match of the 2026 World Cup at Boston Stadium in Boston on Wednesday, WIB.
In the match, Haaland contributed two goals, scored in the 29th and 43rd minutes, followed by Leo Osigard in the 76th minute, and an own goal from Aymen Hussein in second-half stoppage time. Hussein also scored Iraq's consolation goal in the 39th minute.
"I think most people saw how I felt on the big screen [inside the stadium], so I don't think I need to tell anyone more!" Haaland was quoted as saying on the FIFA website on Wednesday.
"But of course it feels amazing, and I'm proud. I'm so proud to have made my World Cup debut and to have won Norway's first World Cup match in 28 years," added the Manchester City striker.
Haaland's goal tally for Norway has now reached a truly impressive milestone, with his brace in this match marking his 57th goal in 51 appearances for the national team.
According to Haaland, coach Stale Solbakken's role has been crucial in supporting his performance on the pitch, enabling him to perform so well.
"First of all, our relationship is very good. You can see that since he started managing the national team. We've developed a good relationship and performed well on the pitch. That's the most important thing," said the 25-year-old.
Norway will then play their second match against Senegal, scheduled.
