The Situbondo Regency Government, East Java, is optimistic that rice productivity this year can reach 500,000 tons of dry harvested grain from a target of around 321,000 tons of GKP along with the innovation of liquid organic fertilizer from household waste.
Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo said that the utilization of household waste such as fruit peels, vegetable scraps and others is carried out by the waste care community, which is also a farmer.
"We saw together the rice harvest that became a pilot using liquid organic fertilizer from household waste, and the results of the rice production were able to reach 9.1 tons of grain per hectare, this is extraordinary compared to the previous 7.3 tons of grain per hectare," said Regent Rio after the rice harvest with the results of optimizing the use of household waste in the rice fields of Talkandang Village, Situbondo District.
The Regent appreciated the Situbondo waste care community which continues to innovate in making liquid organic fertilizer from household waste and has succeeded in increasing rice crop productivity.
On that occasion, Rio encouraged the innovation of processing household waste into liquid organic fertilizer to be developed and imitated by farmers in other districts, because it not only increases rice yields but also reduces production costs.
The Regent also asked the waste care community in Situbondo District to immediately complete its permits so it can reach a wider market, thereby providing benefits to other farmers.
"We ask that you don't stop here, complete the permits, collaborate with other communities, one of which is the campus community, because this has been proven to increase rice production from 7.3 tons of grain to 9.1 tons of grain per hectare," he said.
