The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia has emphasized its openness to input from universities, particularly regarding the 1945 Constitution.
In the Constitutional Discussion event at Hasanuddin University , Makassar, South Sulawesi, Acting Secretary General of the MPR RI Siti Fauziah hoped that the discussion with universities would find answers regarding the location of the problems that arise in the Constitution or at the level of its implementation.
"This is where we see the importance of collaborating with universities that always think objectively," said the woman, familiarly known as Titi, as quoted from a statement confirmed.
He stated that evaluating various articles in the 1945 Constitution was natural, especially after undergoing four stages of amendments over the past 20 years. Therefore, input from the campus community was considered crucial.
Currently, the MPR has recorded various public aspirations regarding the 1945 Constitution, including the desire to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the results of the amendments to the Constitution.
In addition, Titi said that there are also those who are of the opinion that the Constitution is still in accordance with the needs of the times so that the problems that arise are not caused by the Constitution, but rather at the level of its implementation.
In the economic sector, he stated that the 1945 Constitution provides a legal basis that requires the state to regulate the economic system for the prosperity of the people and provide social welfare for all Indonesian people.
"The Constitution rejects the liberal-capitalist economic system and replaces it with economic democracy," he said.
It is said that this is stated in Article 33 paragraph (1), (2), and (3) which states " The economy is structured as a joint effort based on the principle of family. Branches of production that are important for the state and affect the livelihood of many people are controlled by the state, and the land, water and natural resources are controlled by the state and used for the greatest prosperity of the people."
Therefore, he considers the 1945 Constitution to always be interesting to discuss because there are many issues that can become topics of discussion.
