The Republic of Congo is requesting assistance from the International Monetary Fund

The Congo is requesting the opening of negotiations with the IMF for the implementation of a new economic and financial program.

Announced by the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Public Portfolio, the initiative is in line with the commitments made by the CEMAC Heads of State at the extraordinary summit of January 22nd. Thus, each country in the Economic Community of Central African States must align its economic policy with a framework developed in consultation with the IMF.

The objective is to strengthen macroeconomic stability and the sustainability of public finances in the sub-region.

An IMF technical mission is expected in Brazzaville in the coming weeks to begin discussions with the authorities and define the parameters of the program, which must align with the country's economic and social priorities.

According to Brazzaville, this new agreement with the IMF represents a lever to support economic recovery, strengthen control of public finances, sustainably finance national priorities and accelerate the diversification of the Congolese economy.
