"There will be no more foreign coaches for the Egyptian national team"... A video of Sisi speaking about football is circulating.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's statements calling for giving Egyptian coaches a chance have resurfaced, after Hossam Hassan led the Egyptian national team to achieve its first victory in the 2026 World Cup.
President Sisi had stressed, during his participation in the first session of the Egyptian State Simulation Model within the activities of the Youth Conference in the New Administrative Capital in August 2019, the importance of trusting Egyptian coaches and giving them the opportunity to lead the national teams.
President Sisi said at the time: “Why don’t we have confidence in Egyptian coaches? We must give them a chance; the result is the same,” during his discussion about the national team’s coaching file after a period of relying on foreign coaches.
Following the match between the Egyptian and New Zealand national teams in the World Cup today, Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, thanked President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, saying: "I thank President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and it is a great thing that our leader congratulates us and is satisfied with our work, and I promise the President that we will strive hard."
The national team's technical director affirmed the continuation of work to achieve more positive results during the Pharaohs' journey in the tournament.
The Egyptian national team achieved a historic victory over their New Zealand counterparts with a score of 3-1, in the match that brought them together as part of the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
The goals for the Egyptian national team were scored by Mostafa Zico, Mohamed Salah, and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, giving the Pharaohs their first victory in the history of their participation in the World Cup.
With this victory, the Egyptian national team raised its tally to 4 points in Group Seven, temporarily topping the group standings, before the anticipated match against the Iranian national team in the final round of the group stage.
