Uzbekistan lost 1-3 to Colombia in its World Cup debut

The Uzbekistan national team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Colombia in Group K in their debut at the World Cup, which this year was held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Playing at the Azteca Stadium, Mexico City, on Thursday, Uzbekistan struggled to develop its game in the first half.

Jhon Arias's shot in the 17th minute went wide of the Uzbekistan goal. Then, in the 32nd minute, Luis Diaz's left-footed shot almost gave Colombia the lead, but his shot hit the post.

Colombia, who had played the better part of the first half, took the lead in the 40th minute when Diaz's through ball was met by Daniel Munoz, who raced into the penalty area. The score remained 1-0 to Colombia at halftime.

In the second half, Uzbekistan coach Fabio Cannavaor made a quick substitution by bringing on two players at once, namely Farrukh Sayfiev and Dostonbek Khamdamov to replace Sherzod Nasrullaev and Oston Urunov.
