The Portuguese national team made a humanitarian decision to wear special bracelets during all their matches and training sessions in the World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, in commemoration of their late star Diogo Jota.
Before they traveled to the United States, Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro presented each player with a green and red bracelet bearing the names of all the national team players, as well as the phrase "In tribute to Jota," the Portuguese and Liverpool striker who died in July 2025 after a horrific car accident in Spain.
"We appreciate this very much," said Portugal midfielder Vitinha at the team's first press conference at their training camp in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

He added that the Prime Minister "left us free to decide whether and how we would wear it."
The Paris Saint-Germain star confirmed that the national team players decided together to wear the bracelets throughout the tournament, including during training and matches.
