The Indian Ministry of Defence announced the successful first test launch of the Kusha long-range surface-to-air missile.
The ministry notes that this successful experiment was organized and conducted by specialists from the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which is affiliated with the ministry.
According to the ministry, the successful test launch of the Kusha rocket was conducted on July 23, 2026, on Dr. Abdul Kalam Island (an uninhabited island) off the coast of Odisha state.
The press release published on the ministry's website indicates that the Kusha missile system is capable of effectively engaging a variety of aerial targets, including missiles, fighter jets, drones, and various large flying devices and equipment.
It should be noted that in June 2026, it was announced that all future Indian Navy ships would be equipped with supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles, which are a joint Russian-Indian production.
