Indonesian men's singles player Jonatan Christie was immediately eliminated in the first round of the BWF World Tour Super 750 Japan Open 2026 after losing to Thailand's Panitchapon Teeraratsakul.
Fourth seed Jonatan lost in straight games 16-21, 14-21 after struggling to adjust to the faster shuttlecock compared to the field test session.
"Firstly, the shuttlecock 's condition was quite different from yesterday's field test. Today, it was much firmer and faster. So, my playing style and strategy also changed slightly, but I still wasn't able to handle the change," said Jonatan in an official PBSI statement after the match.
The 28-year-old badminton player assessed that his delay in reading the match conditions allowed Panitchapon to control the game, especially in the second game.
