Colombian cyclist Enner Rubio suffered a violent collision during the 19th stage of the Tour de France due to overcrowding.
The crowds packed on both sides of the road narrowed the path of the race for the competitors and the vehicles providing security and support for the race, which led to a support vehicle belonging to the Emirati "XRG" team stopping suddenly to avoid colliding with some of the crowds.
But the car’s sudden stop caused Enner Rubio, a Movistar driver, to crash into it from behind with great force, as he was driving at high speed while climbing the Alpe d’Huez, resulting in facial injuries and bleeding.
Tour standings, was forced to withdraw from the stage a few kilometers from the finish line at the summit, before Slovenian Tadej Pogacar won the Tour.
The Movistar corridor is stationed at the price of a violent impetus with the UAE Team Emirates this will improve the visa with the help of the driver.
In a statement released after the Tour, the Movistar team revealed that their rider, Enner Rubio, 28, "received approximately 20 stitches to his face following the accident."
A spokesperson for the XRG team explained the circumstances of the accident, saying: "One of the spectators fell directly forward in the path of the car. The car applied the brakes to avoid a collision."
He added: "It was a very unfortunate accident, and no one wants to see it. We wish Enner Rubio a speedy recovery."
