The Indonesian Badminton Association has designated the 2026 Yonex-Sunrise Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix as a platform for scouting potential young players to strengthen the regeneration of Indonesian badminton.
PBSI Secretary General Ricky Soebagdja said international junior tournaments like the Jaya Raya Junior have a crucial role in providing competitive experience and providing opportunities for talent scouts to identify the potential of young athletes.
"Championships like this must be supported. Hopefully, in the future, they will become more well-known worldwide and attract players from Europe and the US. The PBSI talent scouting team, especially in the doubles category, has identified many promising players who could be recruited to the national training camp," Ricky said in an official statement after the tournament's closing ceremony at the PB Jaya Raya Sports Hall in South Tangerang.
Head of Development and Achievement at the Indonesian Badminton Association , Eng Hian, said that PBSI also sent regional development and achievement teams to monitor the development of potential players in junior tournaments.
According to Eng, the increasing number of participants from various countries can make the competition more competitive, thereby helping accelerate the birth of a new generation of Indonesian badminton.
"With the increasing number of participants from various countries, the quality of competition is expected to continue to improve, thus accelerating the emergence of a new generation of Indonesian badminton players ready to compete at the global level. The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has deployed its Regional Leadership Development Team (Binpresda) to monitor potential players in all junior tournaments," said Eng.
