Surprise... Calls to support an Arab candidate for the FIFA presidency

Press reports have revealed growing calls to support a candidate to compete with Swiss Gianni Infantino for the position of president of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA).

Press reports have revealed growing calls to support a candidate to compete with Swiss Gianni Infantino for the position of president of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA).

Infantino had announced last April that he would run for a third term as FIFA president.

But after the unprecedented crises that occurred in the 2026 World Cup and the red card that was canceled by a call from US President Donald Trump, UEFA made the decision to support another candidate against Infantino.

The newspaper "talkSPORT" said that there are several names that would be eligible to run for the presidency of the International Federation of Football Associations.

She reported that the first of these names is Alexander Ceferin, the president of the European Football Association "UEFA", and that it is the most popular name.

Ceferin had ruled out running for a third full term until 2031, but is now willing to run for re-election if no other candidates come forward.

Ceferin does not intend to enter into a direct confrontation with Infantino despite their differences on many issues.

Because of this, talkSPORT confirmed that the most prominent and convincing name, who will have the support of many European football federations, including Belgium and Poland, is Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain.

She explained that there are many names, including Patrice Motsepe, but none of them intend to clash directly with Infantino.

The FIFA presidential elections are scheduled to begin on November 18 in the Kingdom of Morocco.
