The Russian Athletics Federation has decided to open a new round of legal proceedings against the sanctions imposed on Russian athletes after filing a new appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decisions of the International Association of Athletics Federations.
The Russian Athletics Federation announced that it has filed a second lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, objecting to the sanctions imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations on Russian athletes, demanding their cancellation and allowing the athletes to return to participating in international competitions.
The executive director of the Russian Athletics Federation, Boris Yareshevsky, said the sanctions imposed on the federation were "unprecedented," arguing that they hinder the development of athletics in Russia.
He added that the union will continue to defend its rights before the courts and work to overturn the sanctions, stressing that there are other steps being prepared in order to “restore justice.”
The new lawsuit comes after a previous legal move, as the Russian Athletics Federation filed an appeal on July 9 with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the IAAF's decision to extend the suspension of Russian athletes.
The decision was issued on July 3, thus continuing the Russian athletes' legal battle to regain the right to participate in international championships.
