Spanish club Atletico Madrid are considering making an offer to sign Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, after he became a free agent following the end of his career with Liverpool.

According to a report by the "fichajes" network, Real Madrid is considering offering Salah a two-season contract, with the option to extend for a third season, conditional on his performance and the number of matches he plays.

The free transfer deal allows Atletico Madrid to focus on negotiating the signing bonus and annual salary of the player, especially since Salah ended his contract with Liverpool at the end of the 2025-2026 season.

The network indicated that the Spanish club's management is seeking, through initial contacts, to determine Salah's financial conditions and his desire to play in the Spanish league, given that he has received offers from other clubs, particularly from Turkey and Saudi Arabia, since announcing his departure from Liverpool.

She stressed that the salary was the biggest obstacle to completing the deal, as Salah was earning around £400,000 a week at Liverpool, financial demands that had already halted negotiations by Turkish club Besiktas to sign the Egyptian star.

Atletico Madrid cannot compete with the huge financial offers coming from Saudi Arabia, so the sports management plans to entice the Egyptian star with the possibility of continuing to compete in European championships and giving him a pivotal and essential role within the team.

Fichajes indicated that acquiring Mohamed Salah, 34, is an ideal strategic solution for Atletico Madrid to fill the attacking void left by the departure of French star Antoine Griezmann.

The deal gives the club the advantage of strengthening its front line with a top-class player, while avoiding the hefty financial burden of transfer fees, and focusing instead on a salary structure that fits within the team's budget.

Salah has not yet reached an agreement with any club, and his status as a free agent gives him the advantage of signing even after the transfer window closes, but Atletico Madrid are aiming to finalize matters before the official competitions begin.
