Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League, continued to criticize FIFA President Gianni Infantino, saying that the latter should leave the presidency of "FIFA" as soon as possible.
Tebas said in statements reported by English journalist Ben Jacobs: "The continental federations, club associations and players should not be satisfied with this withdrawal and consider the matter closed, as the issue is now much deeper than that."
He added: "Has anyone forgotten the political interference that took place to raise a red card? And the investigation that was opened in Congress, which called for an investigation into Infantino, due to unsportsmanlike conduct? And the dropping of charges in historic FIFA corruption cases? And the exorbitant prices of World Cup tickets? And the controversial decisions regarding new competitions and formats that were taken without a real dialogue and agreement with the parties involved?"
He explained: "The problem was never just one proposal made by Infantino, but rather a governance model that focuses on power, reduces disciplinary rules, and marginalizes those directly affected by his decisions. For all these reasons, I believe that Gianni Infantino should not continue as FIFA president."
He concluded: “Football needs new leadership that will revolutionize the administrative system, restore its credibility, and base its future decisions on consultation with stakeholders after assessing their sporting, economic, and social impact beforehand, instead of imposing them. Infantino’s reversal of this decision will not erase what he did.”
Infantino faced much criticism following his announcement of a plan to sell shares of FIFA to external investors to oversee major tournaments such as the World Cup.
The fierce backlash against this proposal prompted Infantino to immediately cancel it, amid announcements by UEFA member associations that they would boycott FIFA tournaments.
