FIFA has decided to make a surprise change to the sanctions it imposed last week on a number of players from the Argentine national team.
FIFA responded to a request from the Argentine Football Association to amend the method of implementing the sanctions imposed on the three national team players: Paredes, Molina and Almada.
The Argentine Football Association said it had obtained FIFA's approval to limit suspensions to Category A international friendly matches or official matches belonging only to the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), and to adopt the matches that come first in time.
This means that the expiry of the period of matches covered by the penalty will be shorter in time and will not include Argentina's matches in official FIFA competitions.
The Argentine Football Association confirmed in a statement that it will continue to appeal the sanctions, which also included financial penalties and restrictions on fan attendance at the national team's home matches.
The Argentine national team had lost its world title to Spain (1-0) in extra time with a goal from Ferran Torres, but Lionel Messi's teammates caused chaos and clashed with Spanish players during the celebrations of "La Roja" players after winning the title.
FIFA has condemned three Argentina players and assistant coach Roberto Ayala for the incidents, suspending Leandro Paredes for 10 matches, Nahuel Molina for 7 matches, Thiago Almada for one match, and assistant coach Roberto Ayala for 3 matches.
