The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Hanchuan Challenger 2026 at Tianyu Lake Scenic Area, China, on August 1-2 is an important event for the fight for three tickets to the next FIBA 3x3 World Tour series.
The FIBA 3x3 website announced Friday that the Hanchuan series will be the 15th Challenger Series of the 2026 season and offer a significant opportunity for teams seeking a place at the highest level of global 3x3 basketball.
The event is similar to the 2026 Darkhan Challenger series in Mongolia on August 1-2, which also provides three tickets to be won to the World Tour Lausanne in Switzerland, on August 14-15.
The German Skyliners come into the tournament as the top seeds after an impressive season and currently sit fourth in the 2026 World Tour standings.
The team is aiming for its second Challenger title of the season. Shanghai of China, featuring world champion basketball player Karlis Lasmanis, is also a strong contender.
Meanwhile, Antwerp of Belgium is relying on Batam Challenger Player of the Year Jonas Foerts to compete for a podium spot. Lithuania's Raudondvaris Hoptrans with Evaldas Dziaugys, Hangzhou Jingwei with Goran Vidovic, Valencia Basket with Ivan Aurrecoechea, and Princeton with Jerome Desrosiers are expected to also be in contention.
The main draw will be divided into four groups. Group A will feature Skyliners, Princeton, and Lausanne. Group B will feature Antwerp, Taipei WanBao, and Xi'an.
Meanwhile, Group C features Raudondvaris Hoptrans, Valencia Basket, and one team that qualified in the qualifying draw. Group D features Shanghai, Hangzhou Jingwei, and one other team that also qualified in the qualifying draw.
FIBA 3x3 said every match will be crucial because only the three best teams will be entitled to secure tickets to the World Tour Lausanne series.
