The future of Emam Ashour, the midfielder for Al-Ahly of Egypt, has witnessed rapid developments in recent days, amid interest from a number of foreign clubs in acquiring his services.
The future of Imam Ashour has sparked controversy recently, given the player's desire to pursue a new professional experience outside of Egypt, especially with interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, in addition to his efforts to improve his contractual situation with Al-Ahly.
Al-Ahly had received an official offer from Turkish club Konyaspor to sign the player, starting at $3.5 million, before the Turkish club raised its offer to $4.25 million, but the Red Castle management rejected the offer and insisted on the player remaining in the team’s ranks.
Al-Ahly has closed the door on the departure of its players during the current transfer period, confirming that it will not enter into negotiations regarding any professional offers, whether friendly or official, in order to maintain the stability of the team and meet the needs of the technical staff before the start of the new season.
An informed source at Al-Ahly club said that Imam Ashour is determined to leave the team and pursue a professional career outside of Egypt.
The source added: "Imam Ashour held a meeting with Wael Gomaa, the football director, and confirmed his desire to leave to play professionally abroad and not continue with the Red Team."
He continued: "Wael Gomaa, in turn, confirmed to the player that the club has no problem with his departure, but only for an amount that befits his value as one of the distinguished players."
Imam Ashour has delivered impressive attacking statistics during his time with Al Ahly so far, contributing to 56 goals across various competitions.
The midfielder scored 33 goals for Al Ahly, in addition to providing 23 assists for his teammates. Imam Ashour scored 23 goals and provided 16 assists in the Egyptian League, while he scored 6 goals and provided 6 assists in African championships.
