Malaysia hopes to meet Indonesia in the Srikandi Merdeka Cup final

Malaysia's U16 women's national team coach, Fairuz Montana bin Zainal Abidin, hopes to meet the Indonesian national team in the final of the 2026 Srikandi Merdeka Cup.

Malaysia faced a tough semifinal challenge against Thailand, while Indonesia faced Jordan. Both semifinal matches were held at the Supersoccer Arena in Kudus.

"I also hope the Garuda Pertiwi squad will qualify for the final so I can meet Garuda Pertiwi in the final," said Fairuz in a press conference at the Supersoccer Arena, Kudus, Thursday.

Fairuz wants his players to give their all when they face Thailand, as their opponents in the semifinals are undefeated in the group stage.

"To meet Thai troops, Thailand is not a weak team. It is a team that we know, a good, good team," said Fairuz

Separately, Malaysian player Nur Qistina binti Mohd Fais said that her team's preparations were going smoothly.

"We will meet Thailand in the semifinals and our preparations for this semifinal are going smoothly. And my dream is to come here to lift the trophy too," said Qistina.

"Our dream is to beat, if possible, Garuda Pertiwi, but we will beat Thailand first," he added.
