Russia wins another gold medal at the European Swimming Championships

Russian swimmer Igor Kornev won the gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly race at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships held in the French capital, Paris.

Kornev finished the race in 22.52 seconds, ahead of Frenchman Maxime Grosse who took the silver medal, while the bronze went to Belarusian Grigory Pekarski.

Kornev's gold medal comes one day after his compatriot Ilya Borodin won gold in the 400m individual medley, after setting a new European Championships record.

The European Aquatics Championships will be held in Paris from July 31 to August 16, with Russian athletes participating as neutrals.
