The coach of the Indonesian U-16 Women's National Team, Takumi Taniguchi, said that the Indonesian players appearing in the 2026 Srikandi Merdeka Cup have the opportunity to participate in the U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
"We are currently focused on preparing for the Asian Cup. I have to select a team consisting of current U-17 players and players from our own team. I hope the players can compete in the Asian Cup Qualifiers," said Taniguchi, who is also the assistant coach of the Indonesian women's national team, after the match against Singapore at the Supersoccer Arena in Kudus Regency.
He said the young players' performances at the Srikandi Merdeka Cup were a valuable experience, especially as it was their first time playing international football in front of a large crowd.
Taniguchi emphasized that their young age means the players still have ample opportunity to develop and reach the highest level.
He asked the players not to see the tournament results as the end of the journey, but as an opportunity to continue improving themselves.
"We must keep moving forward. Starting today, we must improve ourselves and continue to move forward," he said.
Taniguchi appreciated the players' struggle even though they lost.
