French President Emmanuel Macron was quick to issue a firm statement following the revelation of details of a criminal plot to kidnap France's all-time leading scorer Kylian Mbappe, by a gang led by a young man from inside prison.
The French newspaper “Le Parisien” revealed yesterday, Wednesday, shocking details of a security operation that resulted in the dismantling of a criminal network that was planning a series of kidnappings and armed home invasions, targeting 26 prominent figures, the first of whom was Mbappe.
According to the newspaper, on August 21, 2026, judicial authorities in the city of Nanterre charged an 18-year-old known as "Clément L." with "robbery as part of an organized gang," who is suspected of being the mastermind behind these operations.
In a remarkable security paradox, investigations revealed that the young man, despite already serving a prison sentence for previous crimes, continued to manage the gang's operations and issue instructions to his partners from inside his cell, using the instant messaging application "Snapchat".
Examination of two electronic devices seized by investigators inside the prison revealed a target list of 26 addresses belonging to wealthy and influential figures, including businessmen, traders, rappers, and football players.
A judicial source confirmed to the newspaper that "the accused was specifically planning to target a rapper and football player, Kylian Mbappe."
In light of these developments, French President Emmanuel Macron, who has a relationship and mutual trust with Mbappe that has been clearly demonstrated on several occasions and his continued support for the player, was quick to comment firmly on the matter.
The French channel TF1 quoted Macron as saying: "An attempt to kidnap Mbappe? No one would dare touch Kylian. Let me remind you that he has already worn the French national team jersey. He is simply a national treasure."
No official comment has yet been issued from Kylian Mbappe's camp regarding this news, which has caused a great stir in French media and security circles.
