Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho announced on Thursday that a disciplinary investigation has been opened against defender Raul Asensio after he was found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Mourinho said, "As long as the procedures are in place, I consider him a Real Madrid player, but he will be out of action for several weeks due to injury, and that makes things better in dealing with this problem."
Asensio has not played this season due to a muscle injury.
A Spanish court fined Asensio, 23, and suspended his license for driving under the influence of alcohol this month.
In another separate case, Asensio remains accused of distributing a sex video without the consent of the parties involved in 2023.
Court proceedings in the second case were expected to begin this week.
Mourinho said, "Asensio is a perfect professional. When he was fit, no one trained better than him, and right now he is the first player to arrive at the training ground and the last to leave."
He added, "But a Real Madrid player remains connected to the club every hour, day, week, or year, and everything he does outside the stadium also affects the club."
He concluded his remarks by saying, "Everything the player does affects the prestige of the club, and I am not happy about that, but mistakes are of course possible, and the matter is different when they are repeated and accumulated."
