In a statement, the Qassam Brigades mourned “Mohammed Abdel Salam Al-Yazouri (Abu Haitham), a member of the General Military Council of the Qassam Brigades and commander of the Khan Younis Brigade,” noting that he “was martyred on Thursday evening, as a result of a cowardly assassination operation.”

She explained that Al-Yazouri moved between a number of leadership positions within the Khan Younis Brigade during his military career, as he held the positions of commander of the Khan Younis Battalion and commander of the brigade's intelligence.
She added that Al-Yazouri had a "prominent role in planning the Al-Aqsa Flood operation," and that he took command of the "Weapons and Services Battalion" and served as deputy brigade commander, before taking command of the Khan Yunis Brigade.
Earlier on Friday, the Israeli occupation army announced the assassination of Al-Yazouri and another Palestinian in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army said in a statement that its forces and the Shin Bet security service assassinated Al-Yazouri in a raid in the Khan Younis area on Thursday, noting that he held the position of commander of the Khan Younis brigade in the Hamas movement.
The Israeli occupation army claimed that Al-Yazuri was responsible for directing Qassam fighters to carry out attacks against its forces and Israelis, as well as working to rebuild the brigade's force, which it said had been hit during the war.
An Israeli airstrike targeted a gathering of Palestinians in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis on Thursday evening, resulting in the death of three Palestinians, including Al-Yazouri, and the injury of five others, according to a medical source.
Israeli attacks on Khan Younis continued on Friday, with one Palestinian killed and 13 others, including children, wounded in separate attacks on the city.
A medical source at Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip told Anadolu that the body of a Palestinian and 12 wounded people, including children, arrived after an Israeli drone strike on a gathering of civilians in the “Al-Sumoud” camp for displaced people in the Mawasi Khan Younis area.
In a separate attack, a Palestinian was seriously injured when an Israeli tank fired towards the Ard al-Laymoun area in Mawasi Khan Yunis, according to a medical source.
In a related context, a Palestinian man died from serious injuries he sustained as a result of an Israeli bombing that targeted a gathering of civilians in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City on Thursday, according to the same source.
These developments come amid continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10, 2025, which have resulted in the deaths of 1,359 Palestinians and injuries to 4,571 others as of Thursday, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas and resistance factions carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, during which they attacked 11 military bases and 22 Israeli settlements near the Gaza Strip border, killing and capturing Israelis.
The movement said the operation was in response to the Israeli blockade of Gaza, plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause, and the imposition of sovereignty over the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
