Speaking on the British star expressed particular displeasure at Sheeran’s justification for avoiding political statements, in which he pointed out that his audience includes “young people, and often children, from diverse backgrounds.”
Faith said: “I don’t like that comment. There are so many children in Palestine who are facing unimaginable things that they shouldn’t have to go through.”
She added: “I say ‘Free Palestine’ to my children every night. I believe children should be introduced to politics.”
She continued, saying: “Taking a politically neutral stance is itself a political stance. You cannot stay out of politics while people see these images day after day.”
Referring to Sheeran's "hypocrisy" in claiming to stay away from politics, Paloma Faith said she participated in a concert with Ed Sheeran to raise funds for Ukraine, in a clear stance of support for the latter after the Russian attack on it.
Faith's comments came after American rapper Macklemore was excluded from Sheeran's concert tour following his pro-Palestinian remarks during a concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where he chanted "Free Palestine."
Macklemore had stated that he wanted the people of Gaza and the West Bank to know that they had not been forgotten, while Sheeran later clarified that the decision to exclude him was made by the tour organizers and not by him personally, while emphasizing that he had his “own views” on the conflict, but wanted his concerts to be an inclusive space for everyone.
McLemore had announced his $1 million donation shortly after being dropped from Ed Sheeran’s US stadium tour, after he chanted “Free Palestine” during a concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earlier in the month.
On Wednesday, McLemore unveiled the fundraising campaign and invited Robert Kraft, the pro-Israel Zionist American billionaire and owner of the New England Patriots stadium team, to join it, after Kraft had led a campaign to pressure him to be excluded from the tour and refused to let him sing at his stadium.
McLemore told Kraft: “Regardless of our differences, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives deserve protection. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth.”
The singer explained that he would direct his donations to six organizations that provide assistance to Palestinians: HEAL Palestine, the Gaza Charity Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and American Near East Refugee Aid.
