Englishman Liam Rosenior, coach of Paris FC, caused a clash on the pitch after celebrating provocatively in front of fans of his former club Strasbourg, following a 2-1 victory over them.
Shortly before the end of the match held yesterday, Saturday, as part of the fifth round of the French League, the stadium announcer asked Strasbourg fans to stop chanting hostile slogans targeting Rosenior.
Following the final whistle, Rosenior appeared to deliberately provoke the Strasbourg fans, as he began hitting his chest with his hand and then spreading his arms while celebrating the victory, which led to a stampede and clashes between the players of the two teams.
The English coach explained his actions, saying: "A small group of fans, and I want to emphasize that it was only a small group because Strasbourg is a great club, showed disrespect. They insulted my family. The coaching staff on the bench were very angry. So, for me, celebrating in that way was a way of sending a message. I won't say any more about it."
Strasbourg fans had expressed their dissatisfaction with Rosenior after he left the team last January to have a short and unsuccessful stint with English club Chelsea.
