The French men's national basketball team has surpassed Serbia to move up to third place in the world rankings according to the International Basketball Federation after the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

The FIBA website, Wednesday, stated that the position changes occurred after all matches in the fourth window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, which began on August 24 and ended on September 1, 2026, were completed.
France and Serbia both had two wins, but France earned a point advantage because they faced a slightly stronger opponent. This result allowed France to edge past Serbia by a very narrow margin.
In the ranking list, the United States (US) and Germany still dominate the top two positions, namely first and second respectively in the latest global data update.
The USA and Germany each won two matches in the fourth window of the international tournament. Australia also maintained its unbeaten record in the Asian Qualifiers, but failed to reclaim sixth place from Spain.
Türkiye was one of the countries with the biggest jump in the top ten. The team climbed two spots to ninth after becoming the first nation to secure a spot at the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
