Member of Parliament Safety must be a priority for forest and land fire fighting officers

Member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Purwanto, reminded that safety must remain a priority for officers in the field extinguishing forest and land fires.

He stated that most of the fires are located in peat areas, making extinguishing the fires high-risk. He also commended the hard work of the Task Force team and volunteers who have continued to extinguish several hotspots.

"The Task Force team is at the forefront of forest and land fire management. Therefore, their health and safety must be taken into consideration," Bambang said in a written statement received.

Therefore, he stated that the health and safety of officers must not be neglected in their efforts to protect the public. Given the difficult terrain and the smoke, personnel must continue to work diligently to control the fire and prevent its spread.

"I hope they remain enthusiastic about carrying out their duties, but never neglect their own safety when struggling to extinguish fires," he said.

The member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Central Kalimantan Electoral District also distributed complete masks to officers from the Forest and Land Fire Task Force Team who were working in West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan.

He assessed the current forest and land fire situation in West Kotawaringin as quite alarming. Besides impacting public health, the haze caused by the forest and land fires also has the potential to disrupt activities and the economy.

He assessed that the forest and land fire management in West Kotawaringin Regency had been carried out through strong collaboration. The local government, along with the Indonesian National Armed Forces , the Indonesian National Police , and volunteers, continued to work together to address the disaster.

He also urged the entire community of West Kotawaringin to support forest and land fire prevention and mitigation efforts. He stated that joint efforts are essential to protect the region from the threat of haze.
