American Nick Walker achieved a historic feat by winning the Mr. Olympia 2026 title after outperforming Derek Lunsford and Samson Dowda in the competition held in Las Vegas.
Walker, known as "The Mutant," became the 20th man to win the prestigious Sandow Trophy, after claiming the title that had eluded him in previous years.
Walker's victory came after a period marked by several setbacks. He finished sixth in the 2025 Mr. Olympia competition, amid criticism from some fans and prominent figures in bodybuilding who questioned his ability to compete for the title again.
Walker also finished the 2026 Arnold Classic in second place, missing out on the chance to win the $750,000 prize money allocated to the champion.
Ronnie Coleman was the last person to win the Mr. Olympia title from a lower ranking the previous year, when he won the title in 1998 after finishing ninth in the 1997 edition.
Walker entered the 2026 edition under the supervision of a new coach, with a greater focus on controlling the abdominal area and maintaining a tighter core.
The results of these changes became evident after he won the Tampa Pro Championship, before repeating his brilliance on the Mr. Olympia stage in Las Vegas.
Walker's physique had been criticized for some remarks regarding proportions and a wide waist, but he worked on developing his obligatory postures and improving the appearance of his midsection, which helped him to showcase his body shape in a more balanced way.
The official results of the initial assessment showed Walker leading with 8 points, compared to 9 points for Derek Lunsford and 15 points for Samson Dauda, noting that the lowest score is the best.
In the finals, Daouda put on a strong performance and managed to beat Walker in the final show scores 5 to 10, but that was not enough to overturn the final result.
Walker maintained his advantage from the initial assessment stage, securing the Mr. Olympia title by two points, after collecting 18 points compared to 20 for Daouda, while Lunsford came in third place.
Walker also received the "People's Hero" award in the 2026 edition.
