Indonesian women's doubles table tennis pair Cindy Putri/Citra Rasmi defeated Kazakhstan's Zauresh Akasheva/Sarvinoz Mirkadirova to advance to the last 16 of the table tennis event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games at Sky Hall Toyota.
Putri/Rasmi endured a tight five-set match before securing a 3-2 victory. The Indonesian pair started the match with a 12-14 loss in the first set.
Entering the second set, Putri/Rasmi managed to bounce back and win 15-13. This momentum continued in the third set, when they played more effectively and won convincingly, 11-5.
Kazakhstan refused to give up and continued to apply pressure in the fourth set. Akasheva/Mirkadirova secured the set 13-11, leveling the score at 2-2, forcing the match to be decided in a fifth set.
In the deciding set, Cindy/Citra appeared more composed and controlled the game. They ultimately secured an 11-3 victory to secure a 3-2 lead over the Kazakhstan pair.
The victory took Putri/Rasmi to the round of 16 in the women's doubles event and kept the Indonesian pair's chances of going further and competing for a medal at the event intact.
Meanwhile, another Indonesian women's doubles pair, Ni Maharani/Komang Sudarnita, had to admit defeat to the Hong Kong pair, China's Lee Hoi Man Karen/Su Tsz Tung, in a tennis match with a score of 0-3.
In addition, two Indonesian representatives in the men's singles, Muhammad Junindra and Muhammad Negara, also suffered defeats. Junindra lost 4-0 to Qatar's Mohammed Ahussein, while Negara lost 4-1 to Hong Kong's Baldwin Chan.
