Media outlets reported that the US state of Texas has become the first testing ground for electric flying taxis.
A federal program to test electric, hybrid, and self-driving flying vehicles has been launched in the US state of Texas, under which the American companies Joby, Beta, and Whisk will conduct the first official test flights of flying taxis, according to the Verge website.
The website stated that the US Federal Aviation Administration's program had earlier this year selected eight projects to conduct tests on its new electric, hybrid, and self-driving vehicles. The first of these tests began today in Texas with the participation of three vehicle development companies: Joby, Beta, and Wisk.
The companies will spend a week testing routes connecting local cities and airports in Texas, including Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The initial test flights will be conducted without passengers.
Texas became the first of eight states to launch these tests. New York, Utah, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, and New Mexico will later join the program.
The launch of these air transport services aims to relieve pressure on highways in major American cities, but technical limitations related to electric batteries, difficulties with sensors, and legal disputes between major market players continue to hinder the widespread application of these advanced technologies.
