Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation has called on the local football federation to take whatever action it deems appropriate against Hossam Hassan, the coach of the “Pharaohs,” in light of the repercussions of the recent crisis related to his family life.
The council's request came as part of a package of measures announced on Monday, following widespread media controversy surrounding the disputes between Hossam Hassan and his wife, Dan Adam, and the subsequent media coverage of their private lives in recent hours.
The council explained in a statement published on its Facebook page: “Within the framework of its constitutional and legal responsibility to uphold professional standards and preserve the sanctity of private life, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, decided to take a series of decisive measures regarding the media violations related to the family of Captain Hossam Hassan, the technical director of the national team.”
Media channels summoned: The legal representatives of Al-Nahar, Al-Shams and Modern MTI channels were referred to hearings to determine the circumstances of the coverage and its handling of personal and family details in violation of media codes and standards.
Ban on appearance and publicationAll media outlets, newspapers, websites and social media are obligated to prevent the appearance of Mrs. Dana Adam, wife of Captain Hossam Hassan, indefinitely, and to prevent the publication or making available any content related to this crisis.
Addressing the Football Association: Referring the file to the Egyptian Football Association as the competent authority to carry out its role and take whatever action it deems appropriate regarding the national team's technical director and the repercussions of the crisis.
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation stressed at the end of its statement that respect for privacy and public morals represents the essence of responsible media that balances the right to know and freedom of expression with the protection of individuals and adherence to ethical and professional codes.
The crisis stems from family disputes that escalated during the past period, before moving to the media and social media sites, where Dan Adam spoke about her disagreements with Hossam Hassan and revealed her desire to end the marriage, stressing that she tried to reach an amicable end for the sake of her children, but her attempts did not succeed.
These developments come as Hossam Hassan prepares to lead the Egyptian national team in the September camp, which marks the beginning of the Pharaohs' journey in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
