Alexander Zverev's victory in the US Open, the last of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the current season, has led to significant changes in the ATP rankings.
The new rankings released on Monday saw Serbian Novak Djokovic drop out of the top ten for the first time in more than eight years, while Italian Jannik Sinner remained at the top of the rankings despite his absence from the US Open, while Zverev moved up to second place after winning the US Open title on Sunday.
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz held onto third place despite his significant drop after exiting the quarter-finals of the US Open in his first tournament in nearly five months, while American Ben Shelton jumped five places to fourth after reaching a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career, leaving him less than a thousand points behind Alcaraz.
Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime dropped to fifth place, while Russian Daniil Medvedev moved up two places to sixth, and Italian Flavio Cobolli came in seventh.
American Frances Tiafoe returned to the top ten after advancing to eighth place following his semi-final appearance at the US Open, followed by Australian Alex de Minaur and American Taylor Fritz in ninth and tenth place respectively.
In contrast, Djokovic dropped to twelfth place after his surprise first-round exit from the US Open, ending his presence in the top ten for the first time in more than eight years.
Zverev still has a chance to snatch the top spot from Sinner and finish the year in first place for the first time in his career, as Sinner has to defend 3,550 points during the remainder of the season, compared to only 1,080 points for Zverev.
