The expert explained that PHP is a server-side programming language whose main task is to create dynamic web pages: that is, content that changes according to user actions, data from the database, or other conditions.
He said: "Information about two serious security vulnerabilities in the PHP interpreter has become publicly available. PHP is one of the most popular programming languages for web development globally, used by tens of millions of different web resources and applications around the world. The vulnerabilities in PHP allow hackers to access the server without authorization, which in turn leads to a breach of the infrastructure of the server hosting the website. Thus, attackers can access user data stored there, execute malicious software, or attempt to breach the infrastructure of the organization that owns the website."
Bizverchenko points out that it is crucial for owners of online resources to install the update for the aforementioned programming language as soon as it is released. Until then, to minimize risks, they should disable the ability to download certain data formats, create backups, and transfer important information to another location.
As for users, it is recommended to enable two-factor authentication in all possible online services, and to install malware protection applications.
